Anxiety

Do you find you are worrying too much? It is possible that you may have generalized anxiety disorder. Individuals who have generalized anxiety disorder(GAD) experience persistent and excessive worry. One may find themselves excessively concerned with finances, health, housework, being late for appointments and losing one's job. Students may agonize about their academic performance and/or sporting skills. Anxiety can be so distressing that it can interfere with a person's ability to carry out or take pleasure in day-to-day life. Some people may also experience depression with the anxiety, or have problems with alcohol or drug abuse.

Psychotherapy for Anxiety

Psychotherapy can help individuals manage, reduce or even eliminate the symptoms associated with anxiety disorders. Stressful life events and personality traits can worsen symptoms. Often it is not an event that causes distress but a person's interpretation of that event. Therapy can help people to identify unhealthy beliefs and thought patterns, which are often automatic, negative and irrational, and replace them with more positive and helpful ways of thinking. Increasing exercise, reducing caffeine and other dietary changes can also be helpful in reducing symptoms.
